Lee told TPM, "Americans should be able to buy and use the lightbulbs they want, and certainly shouldn’t be limited to a range of choices chosen by unelected, federal bureaucrats."
The Utah senator told The Post Millennial, "Americans should be able to buy and use the lightbulbs they want, and certainly shouldn’t be limited to a range of choices chosen by unelected, federal bureaucrats." This comes after Lee posted on Friday, "Who else wants to bring back real light bulbs in 2025?"
Lee has made reference to deregulating the older style lightbulb before, commenting on a press release from the Department of Energy in April this year, "Who misses incandescent light bulbs? The decision to eliminate them should have been made by elected lawmakers, rather than Joe Biden and his army of unelected bureaucrats."
In April of 2023, President Joe Biden announced a ban on incandescent light bulbs from consumer purchase in the US, and set a start date for the ban in August that year. The policy was a reversal of the first Trump administration’s move to deregulate which light bulbs the American consumer could buy after some laws surrounding their use were left over from former President Barack Obama.
Leading up to Biden putting a ban on incandescent bulbs, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said, "The lighting industry is already embracing more energy efficient products, and this measure will accelerate progress to deliver the best products to American consumers and build a better and brighter future."
The ban was seen as a move to be more "energy efficient," however, Lee has also slammed regulations generally that have hampered Americans' freedom when it comes to purchasing household appliances.
He posted on Friday, "Share & follow if you think the federal government shouldn’t regulate shower heads & household appliances to limit water & energy use."
