A former Kansas City, Miss. high school teacher and coach is currently under investigation for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student while being employed by the school.
According to a search warrant filed during the investigation viewed by KCTV, a student reported the relationship to a teacher in December of 2021. The teacher told an administrator, who subsequently informed law enforcement of the situation.
"KCTV5 News is not naming the teacher because he is not currently charged," KCTV reported. The unnamed teacher worked for the school district from August 2016 through January 2022 as a science teacher, track coach and assistant football coach
A search warrant had been granted to search school district-issued electronics held by the teacher, with an additional search warrant application being filed to search a Snapchat account for its content.
Court records revealed that the Oak Park teacher has been accused of having sexual encounters with the student, with most of these instances reportedly occurring within school grounds.
Records indicated that video surveillance showed both the student and teacher together on campus during "non-school hours and non-instruction areas."
A spokesperson for North Kansas City Schools told KCTV in a written statement that said, "NKC Schools outlines expectations in accordance with Board policy for all staff and works hard to ensure our students have a safe learning environment. Anything less will not be tolerated. We are working with our law enforcement partners during this investigation."
