Higby and his security team were forced to retreat into the Delaney ICE facility.
As chaos and rioting at the facility ensued, Higby was recording footage on his phone and other camera equipment while being escorted by a security team. Higby posted footage as well as an account of what took place when he was robbed. "Full breakdown of what happened," he posted to X.
He recounted that when he tried to record a rioter who smashed a block of concrete onto the windshield of an ICE vehicle, he tried to record the rioter's face but dropped his phone in the process. "Rioter grabbed the phone I was streaming with (by the tripod) and got it from me. I cold cocked him and reports indicate that he fell asleep immediately."
He said that "other militants grabbed my phone, began smashing the tripod, microphones, and phone," and "rioters began closing on me and threatening me. I maced as they closed." Higby recounted that one of his security guards had a frozen water bottle thrown at his head as well. Higby said that even though he called 911, nobody ever came to report on the property damage or injuries.
After his phone was taken, Higby was seen on other footage confronting the far-left rioters who had robbed him of the equipment. While the rioters tried to close in on him, he was seen spraying multiple rioters with mace. He and his security team were forced to retreat into the Delaney ICE facility.
Rioters on the scene also clashed with police as well as federal law enforcement. This is all despite New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill claiming to set up a "peaceful" protest zone at the facility.
Police were dressed in riot gear as they fired tear gas in an attempt to dispel the rioters at the facility. Rioters were also seen blocking EMS with barricades on the road.

“Kill yourself, quit your job, quit your job,” the rioters chanted at one point at the federal officers. The anti-ICE rioters labeled the e federal officers as “murderers,” per the New York Post.
Despite Sherrill ordering state police not to help the federal officers at the facility previously, she deployed the state police on Friday night after being accused of preventing the police from helping federal officers.
The president of the Newark Police Superior Officers’ Association, Captain John Chrystal, said that the department has been blocked by the governor’s office. “Our administration is getting orders from the mayor and from the governor.” However, on Friday, Sherrill said she needed to send in the police as things had "grown unsafe" at the facility.
“From what I’ve been told, police have been told to stand down and it’s a shame could not help control the crowd, and that the administrative debacle was a political hot potato,” he told the Post.
The rioting and protests started over Memorial Day after detainees claimed there were inhumane conditions at the facility.
