AP praises runaway Texas Democrats after slamming Oregon Republicans for their 2019 walkout
These Texas Democrats are the same lawmakers who have been posting images of their dirty laundry hanging up in hotel bathrooms and taking selfies all over Washington.
The AP praised Texas Democrat lawmakers who have been living out of their Washington, DC, hotel rooms since fleeing their home state on Monday to avoid a vote in the state's House. The AP wrote that they are "living a life of stress and scrutiny." In 2019, the publication said Oregon lawmakers "ground the Legislature to a halt" after they walked out to protest a climate bill in that state.
These Texas Democrats are the same lawmakers who have been posting images of their dirty laundry hanging up in hotel bathrooms and taking selfies all over Washington. They even performed a toe-curling rendition of "We Shall Overcome" in front of the Capitol, as though the expansion of early voting and the requirement of free, voter ID, is somehow discriminatory.
Donna Howard was one of the 60 Dems who is currently being housed in a $200/night hotel. Not only does the hotel undoubtedly have a laundry service, Washington, DC, has loads of laundromats.
You bet we’re recognizing & honoring our country’s heritage. As most Texans, tho, this is what we’re doing tonight—using whatever is accessible, uwashing our clothes in the sink. #txlege https://t.co/HC8uDSnWk5 pic.twitter.com/DoaatSCqmj
They met with the Vice President at the headquarters of the American Federation of Teachers, and are basically waiting out the end of the special session, called by Governor Greg Abbott, in order to take up election integrity bills. The White House has come out in support of these Democrats who preferred to flee the state rather than do the work for their constituents.
The AP penned a compelling narrative about their "exodus" via private plane. Not only did they leave abandon their duties as elected representatives in the Texas state House, but they left their day jobs and families as well, all for a political stunt to protest election integrity laws in their state. These rogue lawmakers have also taken up the mission of interfering in federal election laws, pressing for the passage of an unwieldy 817-page, far-reaching bill called the For the People Act.
Democratic lawmakers who fled Texas to block a restrictive voting bill are living a life of scrutiny, stress and secrecy. The state legislators find themselves balancing a punishing schedule and other obligations all under a national spotlight. https://t.co/1A65wSn2eX
The Texas law the lawmakers refuse to vote on would expand early voting in their state and remove some of the pandemic-era changes made to election and voting procedure that were in place to curb contagion, but left more avenues open to potential election fraud.
The president has called these election integrity laws, which are actually more expansive than the voting laws in his home state of Delaware which has no early voting at all, the biggest "test of our democracy since the Civil War." Many pundits on the right call this out for what it is, a complete and total fallacy.
The AP had a much different take on Oregonian Republicans who fled their posts in 2019 due their concerns over climate change legislation. It wasn't praise for their courage that the AP pointed out, but that these GOP lawmakers had "ground the Legislature to a halt."
Republicans in the Oregon Senate say they'll end a more than weeklong walkout over climate legislation that ground the Legislature to a halt. https://t.co/to3Kpuko0d
The AP and mainstream media have been fawning over these Democrats, heaping them with praise, while they act out a bizarre combination of tourist activism the likes of which we haven't seen since Jane Fonda's Fire Drill Fridays, where she staged herself getting arrested for staging protests without a permit. Celebrities joined her and got arrested themselves. Media loved it as much as they loved these dirty-laundry-airing, selfie-taking, responsibility-shirking, federal-election-law-interfering Texas Democrats.
