WATCH: Parents of US Marine imprisoned after criticizing Biden speak out

In the video, Scheller tore into the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Gen. Frank McKenzie and called for their resignations. He later announced he was resigning and walking away from his $2 million pension earned after 17 years of service. Scheller was three years away from retirement.

Scheller was ordered not to communicate on social media, according to a Sept. 25 Facebook post: "Effective immediately upon your receipt below, you are hereby ordered to refrain from posting any and all material, in any form without exception, to any social media. In this context, the term 'social media' shall be construed very broadly to include any medium by which you may share information with groups of people…"

According to a statement Scheller's parents posted on LinkedIn: "It is with a heavy heart that we, his parents, are informing you that our son, Lt. Col Stuart Scheller, has been incarcerated by the USMC this morning, September 27, 2021. He was issued a Gag order which he broke this weekend by posting on social media.Like us, he is a Proud American that has proudly served his nation for seventeen years and was simply asking the system that he dedicated his life to, the Military, to also support him.

"His command seems to be concerned but do not appear to have the tools to support him at this time. Incarceration appears to be their only solution. The lack of ACCOUNTABILITY for the botched Afghanistan withdrawal has caused many issues and stressors for thousands of our Service Members who have asked, 'WAS IT ALL WORTH IT?'"

The Schellers also posted a link to a fundraising campaign which has so far raised over $1.4 million.

The parents told Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Wednesday evening: "He knew this weekend when he posted again and he broke his silence that they were probably going to arrest him. He is a very intelligent man. He understands what's going to happen to him."

"He broke chain of command … his crime was speaking truth to power, and power couldn't handle it … While he broke chain of command – [Gens.] Austin, Milley, McKenzie – they broke the chain of trust and confidence in the American people. We're mad, we're mad as hell."

Later in the evening, the couple spoke to Fox News host Laura Ingraham, during which Scheller Sr. said, "Our son called for accountability. Throughout the hearing today I don’t feel like they accepted accountability. I am extremely disappointed. It’s no coincidence in my opinion that they put a gag order on [Stuart Jr.] and they put him in prison the day before they had to appear in front of senators — and tomorrow in front of congressmen."

"I think that is fairly an act of cowardice," he added.

The video, which Scheller posted after the attack in Kabul where 13 US service members were killed, has been viewed over 1 million times on Facebook. "I want to say this very strongly," he said in the video. "I have been fighting for 17 years. I am willing to throw it all away to say to my senior leaders: I demand accountability."

According to Task and Purpose, "Scheller is accused of the following offenses under the UCMJ: Article 88: Contempt toward officials, Article 90: Willfully disobeying a superior commissioned officer, Article 92: Failure to obey an order, and Article 133: Conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman."
