2024 GOP frontrunner Donald Trump's potential return to the White House was of "great concern" to one elite and stoked fears in others at the yearly World Economic Forum meetup in Davos, Switzerland.
Going into the Iowa caucuses Trump is far ahead of primary competition in recent polls. The potential for him to become president of the United States again spurred nervous discussions thousands of miles away at the elite meeting.
“You know, we’ve been there before, we survived it, so we’ll see what it means,” BlackRock Vice Chairman Philipp Hildebrand said, according to Bloomberg. “Certainly, from a European perspective, from a kind of globalist, Atlanticist perspective, it’s of course a great concern.”
European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde thought that Trump going back into office was "obviously a threat" in an interview the week before the elite meeting that she attends regularly.

Former Vice President Al Gore did not think it was a foregone conclusion that Trump would get elected.
“I don’t think that it’s a foregone conclusion,” he told Bloomberg in an interview at Davos. “I’ve been through the process, I’ve run four national campaigns over the years and seen it from that perspective. I’ve seen a lot of surprises over the years."
The yearly elite meet-up started this week and goes until January 19.
