Newsom, who recently backtracked on a post from his press office that referred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as "state sponsored terror" agents, has now claimed that federal law enforcement that was sent to California is like the Nazis.
"I want to remember all those images of masked men, the secret police, something familiar in Germany, those first images came out of my state, the second largest city in the United States of America. We saw 4000 National Guard federalized for the first time. We never seen anything like this, and 700 active-duty Marines sent not overseas, but to the second largest city in the United States of America, militarizing the streets of my city," Newsom said at a panel during the Munich Security Conference.
It was not clear if Newsom was referring to ICE or the National Guard in the comments, as ICE commonly wears masks, but the National Guard usually does not. However, just weeks ago, when Newsom had Daily Wire host Ben Shapiro on his podcast, he had a different tune concerning federal law enforcement.
"Your press office tweeted out that it was state-sponsored terrorism, which I mean, Governor, I do have to ask you about that," Shapiro said at the time. "That sort of thing makes our politics worse. Yeah, I mean, it does. I mean, our ICE officers obviously are not terrorists. A tragic situation is not state-sponsored terrorism."
"Yeah, I think that's fair," Newsom responded. Newsom, it appears, cannot make up his mind about what to call ICE as well as other federal law enforcement agencies.
