Mayor Eric Adams of New York City (D), made a speech on Sunday saying that the city's trains are safe for people to ride on, in the wake of the death of a 40-year-old woman who was pushed in front of a train.
"New Yorkers are safe on the subway system. I think it’s about 1.7 percent of the crimes in New York City that occur on the subway system," stated the newly-elected Adams during a press conference.
"Think about that for a moment; what we must do is remove the perception of fear."
"When you see homeless individuals with mental health issues not being attended to and given the proper services, that adds to the perception of fear," Adams continued, according to The Hill.
The Saturday pushing incident caused the death of Michelle Alyssa Go. Simon Martial, 61 years of age and homeless at the time of the attack, quickly turned himself in afterwards and has now been charged with homicide.
Just four days ago on Thursday, Ronald Lacey was arrested for a separate incident involving another person of Asian descent, who was also pushed in front of a train.
Another shocking subway attack that appears to have been racially motivated occurred back in Mar 2021, where a Sri Lankan man was punched in the face and left bloody.
