Officials and residents across the state of Oregon were reportedly sent an anonymous letter that instructed them to track down "brown illegals" to be deported from the country. The mailer was discovered last week.

The letter was sent to residents and was titled, "The brown roundup, part one." It stated that the United States will start the "largest roundup of brown illegals in our history" and added more details on the deportation of “folks who you suspect are here in our country on an illegal basis," according to the Washington Post.

The letter instructs residents with an example to help with deportations, "For example, parking in a church parking lot and taking down license plates and car makes and models of folks that are brown (as well as at) schools as you wait in line to pick up the kiddos or the grandkids. If you see brown folks, record the plate number," per KGW8.

The mayor of Toledo, Oregon as well as other elected officials in cities along the coast of the state, including Coos Bay, North Bend, and Lincoln City, have condemned the letter as racist. Some people have linked it to incoming President-elect Donald Trump as he has promised to have mass deportations.

Trump has made it a priority to deport illegal immigrants who have committed crimes in the US along with incoming Border Czar Tom Homan and made immigration a priority for his campaign. The letter was mailed to residents in Lincoln County, according to the FBI, which said it knew of the “offensive and racist mailings" in the state.

The letter instructed residents to take down license plate numbers of those they thought were illegal immigrants and share the information with state authorities. Lincoln County Sheriff Curtis Landers told residents not to use the letter's instruction and added that he thought it was "harmful, divisive, and inconsistent with the values we uphold as public servants and community members."

Oregon is a sanctuary state and was the first state to declare so in 1987.
