The policy, originally justified as slowing COVID-19 transmission in prisons, may come back.

Rapper 50 Cent said that Los Angeles is about to get out of control because of a zero-bail policy that was reinstated in May of this year. He posted on his social media that the city is "finished" because of the policy.

The previous no-bail policy had come to an end in August of 2022. However, due to a ruling in May of 2023, "bail for violation of misdemeanor probation... may be set at $0."

50 Cent posted footage from Fox 11 News in LA that explained, "Due to Judge Lawrence Riff's ruling, many people arrested will be released immediately without having to pay bail."

In a case study from February 2023 a similar "$0 bail" policy in Yolo County, California "resulted in 163% more total crime & 200% more violent crime." The policy, like the one in LA, was originally instituted as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The policy was supposed to slow the spread of COVID-19 in jails at the time. Now it is being adopted again under the precept that the bail system is unconstitutional.

50 Cent told his audience on Instagram to see just "how bad it gets out there" in the city.

In a piece from Deadline, the outlet said that 50 Cent has "had his own run-ins with the law" which makes "for an interesting take on the system."

50 Cent responded to this on his social media saying, "[W]hy did they write I had run in’s with the law?" He emphasized his Christian faith in response as well.

The rapper often wears a cross and has spoken about his faith before, saying, "I believe in God. I didn't survive being shot nine times for nothing. I didn't claw my way out of the 'hood just 'cause it was something to do. I know I've got a purpose-a reason for being on this planet."
