Corey told investigators that she “needed to do something” about her father and that she knew “it needed to happen today,” Election Day.
Charging documents obtained by The Ari Hoffman Show on Talk Radio 570 KVI from the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s stated that Corey Lizette Burke and her 67-year-old father, Timothy Burke, began arguing after he insisted that the lights stay on. Corey told investigators that she “needed to do something” about her father and that she knew “it needed to happen today,” Election Day.
According to charging documents, “Corey spoke about her recently being reborn, near her birthday of 10/25/24. She stated she knew that there was something important about election day. She continued to say that he was overwhelmed. Corey spoke about how she had been working on setting boundaries with her father about his emotions.”
Following the argument, Corey went upstairs, grabbed an ice axe, and returned to the basement to confront her father.
According to law enforcement, Corey tripped her father and then hit him with the axe repeatedly in his head, back, and side, inflicting puncture wounds deep enough to penetrate his lung and rib cage. She also admitted to strangling him with her hands. She told officers that she stayed by his side until he stopped breathing.
Following the attack, documents stated that she went back upstairs and began smashing windows in her home. Neighbors saw the windows breaking and called 911.
Corey was found outside the residence with blood on her face when officers responded around 8 pm. She was initially unresponsive to questions, claiming she was “sick,” hadn’t eaten and denied taking any substances. However, she could not give officers clear answers about what had happened inside.
She refused a search of the home and claimed she needed to go to the hospital, was taken by ambulance to Harborview Medical Center, and placed under police custody
Officers conducted a welfare check inside the residence after neighbors informed them that Timothy was homebound and during the check found his body in the basement with obvious signs of trauma. An ice axe covered with blood was found on the floor in the upstairs living room.
After finding the body, investigators interviewed Corey at the hospital where she confessed to the killing, spilled all the details and described feeling overwhelmed by her relationship with her father and claimed she “freaked out” during their argument.
According to investigators, “she felt that she wanted to help people change their attachment to their parents. She stated that she herself felt hyper focused and disorganized when it came to her own attachment to her father. She felt overwhelmed by the emotions she had been taking in. She then began to cry saying she was upset because she thought that she had acted too soon. Corey stated that tonight when her father started arguing with her, about the lights being shut off, that she ‘just freaked out.’ Corey whispered to me, ‘will it help?’ I responded with, yes. Corey then whispered, ‘I killed him.’”
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Timothy’s cause of death as a combination of severe blunt force trauma, puncture wounds, and asphyxiation, all consistent with the description of the killing. Corey is being held at the King County Jail with bail set at $2 million.
