Slain Texas teen put faith in God in last post before track meet murder

Texas teenager Austin Metcalf, who was stabbed to death and died in his twin brother's arms, wrote about his faith in God in his last social media post on X just days before he was killed. 

The star football athlete was fatally stabbed by 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony after a confrontation over a seat, according to his twin brother who saw the incident play out. Police arrested Anthony, and he has been charged with first-degree murder.

Just a few days before the incident on March 25, 2025, Metcalf wrote in an X post, "Faith that god got me [heart emoji] and my work will pay off." The post from Metcalf has now been seen over 2.7 million times on the social media platform.

In light of the incident, Metcalf's family also appealed to their faith as they have been mourning the loss of a brother and son. Jeff Metcalf wrote in a GoFundMe to honor Austin's life, "I love you forever, son. It's not goodbye, it's see you later. God will take care of us till we meet again. RIP. Love, Dad."

The webpage says that Metcalf had a 4.0 GPA and that he was voted MVP for his football team, and it has raised over $187,000 since the incident.

Hunter Metcalf, Austin's brother, described the confrontation to reporters in an interview: "This kid is sitting under our tent at track. We asked him to move. He started getting aggressive ... and my brother stepped in and said, you need to move. He's like, ‘Make me move.’”

He then described the stabbing and its aftermath, emotionally detailing what had occurred. "I tried to whip around as fast as I could," Hunter said, holding back tears in the interview. "I looked at my brother and I'm not going to talk about the rest. I tried to help him."

Austin was later declared dead at the hospital after first responders attempted to perform CPR but were unsuccessful.
