The Trump administration is set to activate 300 National Guard troops to support and protect the federal personnel who are operating in the greater area of Chicago. This comes as the Trump administration has been cracking down on crime as well as illegal immigration.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced that the Trump administration called him and said, "Call up your troops, or we will."

"In the coming hours, the Trump Administration intends to federalize 300 members of the Illinois National Guard," he added. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the announcement from Pritzker when speaking to Benny Johnson.

"I sent a request to [Defense] Secretary [Pete] Hegseth. Will be rolling in in the next 24 hours. I put a request in for them to Chicago," Noem said. She also noted that there was a request made for the greater area of Portland, Oregon. Both Democrat-run cities have been epicenters of anti-ICE action and protest in recent days.

The announcement of the 300 troops for Chicago comes after 200 National Guard troops were also activated in Oregon. On Saturday, federal agents conducted multiple arrests and deployed tear gas at the Portland ICE facility.

Hours before in Chicago, the Department of Homeland Security said that an armed woman rammed her car into the vehicle of federal agents. Anti-ICE agitators have been attempting to block the flow of ICE agents in traffic for days. DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin announced this morning that the federal agents were "rammed by vehicles and boxed in by 10 cars."'

"Agents were unable to move their vehicles and exited the car. One of the drivers who rammed the law enforcement vehicle was armed with a semi-automatic weapon. Law enforcement was forced to deploy their weapons and fire defensive shots at an armed US citizen who drove herself to the hospital to get care for wounds," she added at the time.
