President-elect Donald Trump indicated Monday that he will use the military to conduct mass deportations of illegal immigrants.
Trump responded “TRUE!!” to a Truth Social Post from Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton, who surmised that the incoming Trump administration had other plans to remove illegal immigrants. “GOOD NEWS: Reports are the incoming @RealDonaldTrump administration prepared to declare a national emergency and will use military assets to reverse the Biden invasion through a mass deportation program.”
Trump did precisely that during his first presidency: declaring an emergency at the border on Feb. 15, 2019 as Democrats in Congress continued to resist his measures to establish border security, the Daily Wire noted. “We’re going to confront the national security crisis on our southern border, and we’re going to do it one way or the other,” he said at the time. “We have an invasion of drugs and criminals coming into our country.”
Trump had to veto a Democratic resolution that opposed the emergency declaration in order to fund the construction of the border wall that was never finished during his last administration. One of the first things that President Joe Biden did upon assuming office was to issue a series of executive orders that included the revocation of the emergency order and the immediate cessation of Trump’s border policies.
“I have determined that the declaration of a national emergency at our southern border was unwarranted. I have also announced that it shall be the policy of my Administration that no more American taxpayer dollars be diverted to construct a border wall, and that I am directing a careful review of all resources appropriated or redirected to that end,” Biden wrote in February 2021.
With the Biden-Harris administration, illegal immigration hit record levels, with at least 10 million migrants entering the US, while deportations rates plummeted. Around 54 percent of American voters favored Trump’s plan to deport illegal immigrants in the country.
Using the military to assist in mass deportations would also solve the need for more personnel to deport illegal immigrants. Although thousands of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents currently working desk jobs are preparing for possible reassignments to field work, there might not be enough of them.
President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming Border Czar Tom Homan plans to “flood” US sanctuary cities with agents to assist in deportations of illegal immigrants but he will probably need more agents to help. He has also said that the Trump administration is committed to destroying criminal cartels and urged illegal immigrants who are worried about being sent home to “self-deport.” New Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell said he will not assist in mass deportations.
