A suspect has been arrested in the shooting of two in Utah that left the victims hospitalized. The suspect also conducted an "ambush" shooting attack on police when they came to the scene, but was later arrested on Thursday night.

James Joseph Rios, 45, was taken into custody early on Friday morning in connection to the incident. He is facing two counts of attempted murder.

Ogden Police Chief Darin Parke said in a statement that authorities responded to reports of gunfire near 5711 South and 1475 East on Thursday night. When the officers arrived, they "came under ambush fire" from Rios. "They were not physically harmed and immediately called for assistance," Parke added. They called for assistance, and dozens of units reported to the scene, including SWAT.

Video later showed a man being detained by the police. The police chief confirmed that Rios was later forced to surrender. "Our hearts go out to those who were injured and impacted by this incident," said Chief Parke. "We also cannot thank the members of this community enough for their support in helping to resolve this situation together."

KSL reported that there were over 35 police cars that were at the scene of the shooting. "The suspect fired multiple rounds. Police later discovered that two neighbors had been shot prior to the initial officers' arrival. Those victims were transported to local hospitals," police said.

The authorities present for the incident included some from Riverdale, Ogden, Layton, as well as Roy. Fire as well as paramedic vehicles were also on standby.
