Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, whose own election was rife with allegations of vote rigging, has joined the ranks of his cohorts in the United Kingdom and Canada to offer his congratulations to Joe Biden for his apparent victory over President Donald Trump in the US 2020 Election.
He stated that Venezuela was ready to start open dialogue with Washington.
"I congratulate the American people on the presidential election. I also congratulate President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on their victory," Maduro wrote on Twitter on Saturday.
"Venezuela, the Homeland of the Liberator Simon Bolivar will always be ready for dialogue and understanding with the people and government of the United States," Maduro said.
Maduro is at odds with President Trump and his administration, which enacted sanctions on Maduro's socialist regime in Venezuela and does not consider Maduro to be the legitimately elected leader of the South American nation.
Maduro, who won his second term in 2018, did so amid claims of voter suppression and election manipulation, according to the BBC.
Biden’s win at the polls is currently being contested by incumbent President Donald Trump, who has alleged fraud in the states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, and a few other hotly contested locations.
In a statement on Monday, Trump argued that the verdict was far from settled and that he intended to challenge the results in some of the states through the courts following discoveries of irregularities in the tabulation of votes.
On Saturday, Trump said that he had “71,000,000 legal votes” and won the presidential election. US networks including CNN and MSNBC called the race for former VP Joe Biden.
