On Friday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced that new Communications Director Ben Labolt was "making history" in the position because he is "openly gay."
Jean-Pierre said, "I also know that Ben is making history as, you know, we believe here in the Biden-Harris White House that representation matters. He will be the first openly gay communications director which is very, very important indeed."
"Awesome! Because hiring someone just because they’re gay worked out SO well for the transportation department," Jimmy Failla wrote.
On Twitter, The Post Millennial Editor-in-Chief Libby Emmons wrote, "I love how it's always 'openly gay,' like if you're gay but you don't tell everyone about it then it doesn't count. The existence of the phrase itself shows that it's not 'diversity' that matters, but the appearance of diversity that is important."
According to NBC News, Labolt, who was a "veteran of the Obama administration who worked on the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson," replaced Kate Bedingfield in the position. Labolt worked for Obama's 2008 election, served as a White House spokesperson in his first presidential term, and worked on his re-election. After working for the former president, Labolt worked for Democratic consulting firm Bully Pulpit Interactive.
"'Openly gay'. Now, it's not even enough to be gay. You have to be 'openly gay'. What does that mean, exactly, as far as the interview for the job goes @PressSec? Did he have to prove it as well?" Viva Frei tweeted.
As The Post Millennial has reported, "representation matters" is a term used in leftist ideology to push issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
"'Openly gay comms director' is higher on the list of priorities than fixing America’s 'open border.' The world is openly laughing at us," Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Red Voice Media wrote, "'Very, Very Important' - KJP On New WH Comms Director, Ben LaBolt Being Openly Gay Q: Can anyone explain how which type of genitals you prefer and what you do with your genitals makes someone a better WH Comms director? A: Trust The Science, bigot."
