New York City Mayor Eric Adams has endorsed former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for mayor of the Big Apple. This comes after he dropped out of the crowded race, with multiple candidates looking to beat socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani.

"Am I angry I’m not the one taking down the socialist, this communist? You're darn right I am. But this city means more to me than anything. And it is time for us as a family to come together. New York can’t be Europe. Folks, I don't know what is wrong with people. You see what's playing out in other countries because of Islamic extremism? Not Muslims, let's not mix this up. But those Islamic extremisms that are burning churches in Nigeria, that are destroying communities in Germany, that have taken over the logical thinkings," Adams said.

"That's what I'm fighting for. I'm fighting for the family of New York. That's why I'm here today to endorse Andrew Cuomo to be part of this fight. That's why I am here, to endorse Andrew Cuomo," he added.

Adams slammed Mamdani for his past comments about Christopher Columbus, Mamdani’s apprehension from condemning the phrase “globalize the intifada,” as well as other points. Speculation about the endorsement had occurred leading up to the official announcement. The New York Post reported that Adams will campaign alongside Cuomo in the former governor's bid for NYC mayor.

“I can confirm that the Mayor will endorse former Governor Andrew M. Cuomo for mayor and intends to campaign alongside him,” a representative of Adams said in a statement ahead of the official announcement.

In a statement to reporters, Adams said, “They have watched their rents increase in terms of gentrification and they have been disregarded in those neighborhoods, and I’m going to go to those neighborhoods and speak one on one with organizers and groups and I’m going to walk with the governor in those neighborhoods and get them engaged.”
