Ontario Premier Doug Ford will reportedly announce new measures for the province on Friday, including the limiting of social gatherings to just 10 people and a 50 percent capacity limit in bars, restaurants, gyms, and retailers.

The restrictions come as the province faces a new wave of COVID, with more than 3,000 new cases being reported on Friday.

Among these new measures include the banning of food and drink in sporting arenas and theatres, likely so that attendants do not remove facial coverings.

Venues will also have to close their doors by 11 pm.

A source told CTV News Toronto that the province is likely to announce more than 6,000 new cases by Monday.

The new restrictions come just two days after it was announced that sporting venues and concert halls would see 50 percent capacity limits, as well.

The science advisory table has suggested the "circuit breaker" restrictions be implemented, although they would likely not stop the province from reaching 6,000 to 10,000 cases a day by the year's end.

The measures are similar to those announced yesterday by Quebec Premier Francois Legault.
