President Donald Trump sat for a deposition in the E. Jean Carroll civil rape case, and the tape of that deposition was released per a judge's order on Friday.
Carroll brought the suit, claiming that Trump raped her in the Bergdorf Goodman department store dressing room in New York in the 1990s. Trump sat for the deposition in October, which is when the video was recorded.
"It didn't happen," Trump said, "and by the way, if it did happen, it would have been reported within minutes. Talking about going to a major floor, probably I assumed the most important floor, a major floor in a major department store. That's a very busy store, by the way, checkout counters and everything else. And I would be in there– I mean, it's the most ridiculous. It's the most ridiculous disgusting story is just made up."
The New York jury in the case heard and saw the deposition this week. Because this is a civil case, any verdict has to do with whether or not it is likely or unlikely that Trump committed the act, and could have financial, though no criminal liability for the leading 2024 GOP presidential candidate.
Trump has said that he doesn't know who Carroll is. Carroll said that Trump raped her in the lingerie department. She has said she went into the dressing room with Trump, and that Trump "pulled down her tights," Fox News reports.
No witnesses have come forward to corroborate the story, though witnesses for Carroll have testified that she told them about the alleged incident.
Trump has chosen not to testify. Carroll has further accused him of defamation and emotional trauma.
Trump is facing multiple legal suits at the moment, including one brought by NYC DA Alvin Bragg alleging that Trump is guilty of 34 counts of falsification of business documents, a misdemeanor charge which is nearly identical to the one Hillary Clinton and the DNC pled guilty to last year, and were fined $113,000. Bragg will likely be seeking prison time. Trump is also facing Biden's politically motivated Department of Justice, which is alleging that he obstructed an investigation into documents that the FBI seized from Trump's Mar-a-Lago home in August.
