Speaking with CNN on Tuesday, Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX) called for "civic resistance" and for more people to be "marching in the streets" in response to the Trump administration and its actions.

"The other thing, frankly, John, is civic resistance. We need more people marching in the streets. And we saw during the Civil Rights era, people marching in the streets fighting for the right to vote, raising awareness, and essentially, we need to see the same thing in America."

She said that she has been "rallying folks" in her community, "having marches and events that have drawn in people who normally are not part of activism, who maybe sat out the last election."

"And it's more than just about the fight for democracy; it's about exposing the administration and the lies that Republicans and Donald Trump told while they were campaigning. They said they were going to lower costs for the American public on day one, they made big promises about focusing on Americans, which is why they won a lot of folks over in November," she continued.

"But as we've seen, they've done anything but focus on hard-working Americans. They've done nothing to lower costs. We're seeing inflation increasing. We're seeing a focus of our tax dollars going to things like creating a police state in Washington, DC, building massive immigration detention centers, not a focus on lowering costs for Americans."

This comes as the Trump administration has been full steam ahead in implementing its policy prescriptions, including deportations, which have brought about the construction of detention centers like Florida's Alligator Alcatraz, as well as cracking down on crime, which has seen the federalization of DC's police force and the deployment of the National Guard and the city going 12 days without a murder.
