New York City Mayor Eric Adams blamed Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential loss on the Democratic Party's tactic of instilling false fear in their base that Donald Trump would be a fascist or the next "Hitler" rather than addressing real concerns facing the American people.

The Democrat mayor made the comments while speaking to Fox News's Martha MacCallum on Wednesday, in which he also discussed the illegal immigration crisis impacting the city.

The host asked Adams what he thought of President-elect Donald Trump's sweeping victory over Harris, in which he secured substantial support in the five NYC boroughs that have historically voted Democrat. McCollum inquired as to where the Democratic Party had gone wrong.

"We stopped speaking to people, we started speaking at people," Mayor Adams told McCollum. "Not hearing the people and you engaging in dialogue while individuals are fearful of affordability, losing their home, the future of their children, and you're having these intellectual conversations, and people are, like, saying, what the hell are you talking about?"

"I'm hurting and you're asking, 'Is Donald Trump Hitler or not?'" Adams said. "It's just not talking to the real needs of the people."

The New York Post reported that compared to 2020, Trump's performance in the Bronx and Queens this election cycle was over 22 percentage points higher. He also saw improvements on Long Island and every other city borough, including Manhattan.

Adams also expressed dissatisfaction with the open border policies of the Biden administration and the Big Apple's sanctuary city status, asserting that the city has aided and abetted illegal migrants committing criminal acts rather than what the legislation was designed to accomplish.

"Sanctuary city is totally different from a manmade crisis that we saw," said Adams. "This is what sanctuary city states: If you're in this city and you are paying taxes, you buy a loaf of bread, you pay taxes, those are your tax dollars. You have a right to the services of the city."

"We're saying that, as a sanctuary city, if you are here and you are participating legally, you are provided the services as you start your pathway to get citizenship or legal status," he added. "But it is not a safe haven for those who are committing criminal acts or trying to harm migrants, asylum seekers, and other New Yorkers."

Shortly after President-elect Donald Trump was reelected in November, the Big Apple mayor began cutting taxpayer-funded services for illegal immigrants and promised to support Trump's Border Czar Tom Homan in his efforts to deport illegal migrant criminals.
