Greg Abbott builds shipping container wall along Texas border to stop illegal immigrants

"Texas is adding shipping containers to the US-Mexico border in El Paso. This is in addition to the razor wire and National Guard. Together, the strategies are causing illegal immigration at that location to plummet."

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that on Tuesday shipping containers were added to the US-Mexico border in El Paso, Texas, serving as a blockade, as the city declared a state of emergency earlier in December to deal with the surge of illegal immigrants crossing into the US.

Abbott tweeted on Wednesday, "Texas is adding shipping containers to the US-Mexico border in El Paso. This is in addition to the razor wire and National Guard. Together, the strategies are causing illegal immigration at that location to plummet."

As The Post Millennial reported on December 14, El Paso has seen an average of 2,460 illegal immigrants cross into the US daily. That figure surged in the preliminary lead up to the expiration of Title 42,, which gave officials the ability to expel illegal immigrants over health concerns

On December 19, the Supreme Court of the United States issued a stay on the lifting of Title 42, originally scheduled to expire on December 21, and the pause has stalled the surge of border crossers entering the US.

El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser had expected the influx of encounters to reach 6,000 a day if Title 42 were lifted.

Biden's border crisis has seen 2,378,944 encounters with illegal immigrants in the 2022 fiscal year and 1,659,206 in FY 2021.

The Associated Press reports that officials have invoked Title 42, "2.5 million times on grounds of preventing the spread of COVID-19" to stave off the number of illegal immigrants crossing the border.

Biden, who dramatically loosened restrictions along the southern border when he took office, said that the time to lift Title 42 was "overdue" on Tuesday as he was headed to vacation in St. Croix.

Abbot also tweeted on Wednesday, "Texas has bused over 15,900 migrants to sanctuary cities: Over 8,900 to DC

Over 4,900 to NYC

Over 1,500 to Chicago

Over 690 to Philadelphia

As Biden does nothing, Texas is taking unprecedented action to provide relief to our overwhelmed border communities."

In April, Texas Governor Greg Abbott contemplated a way to relocate the masses of border crossers pouring into Texas. He promised to bus illegal immigrants to blue states whose leadership supported open borders.

CBP announced a record high of 233,740 encounters at the border in November, 174,845 illegal immigrants were stopped by CBP in 2021.

The New York Post reports that Arizona Governor Doug Ducey also built a blockade of containers in December but was sued by the Biden administration as some of them were placed on federal land. Ducey removed those containers.
