Harmeet Dhillon says indictment of Antifa member who attacked Andy Ngo is evidence of greater change

She said the reason Democrats took action was not because "the Democrats want to do the right thing necessarily," it was instead because "they have no choice. Now people are beginning to call for that even on the left."

Following an announcement last week that John Colin Hacker, an Antifa member who attacked journalist Andy Ngo in 2019, was indicted on a felony charge of robbery in the third degree by a grand jury, Ngo's lawyer Harmeet Dhillon said the indictment marks a change of action from Portland's Democrat leaders.

In an interview with Steve Cortes on the Newsmax show Cortes & Pellegrino, Dhillon said Hacker has a history of "crossing state lines to be a spotter for Antifa," in which he isn't the one dressed in black, but "points out people for [Antifa] to assault."

"And he did that with respect to Andy earlier this year in May of this year, and he was assaulted again by a gang of Antifa criminals, and this guy pointed him out to that gang," said Dhillon.

Hacker attacked Ngo on May 7, 2019 at a 24 Hour Fitness location in Portland Oregon, where he hit Ngo and stole his phone. As Hacker successfully grabs for Ngo's phone a second time, he can be heard telling Ngo, "I will break your f*cking phone."

"So finally, what happened here is — I think if I were to just read the tea leaves of what's going on here — after years of ignoring this violence in their city, including attacks on the police, including attacks on the federal courthouse there, I think that it is bad for business for Democrats in Portland to allow this type of violence to continue," Dhillon added.

Dhillon continued on to say that "they approached Andy and said, you know, would you like to do something about the situation and so he then went before a grand jury, grand jury did indict this man, and there's an arrest warrant out for him."

She said the reason Democrats took action was not because "the Democrats want to do the right thing necessarily," it was instead because "they have no choice. Now people are beginning to call for that even on the left."

Dhillon also noted that the sudden change in action seen in Portland is being echoed in other large cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles, where citizens and others have "moved to recall their prosecutors who are very liberal."

"And in Portland, that Prosecutor Mike Schmidt is getting flack from Antifa because they felt safe under him for some time and suddenly he seems to have turned on them," she said.

"So look, I don't assign any benign intent to these leaders of Portland. They are reaping what they sow but the Mayor of Portland Ted Wheeler himself has been, you know, besieged is building and so he is finally beginning to talk the talk as well," Dhillon continued.
