According to Bloomberg, Emhoff, who got his kid's nanny pregnant during his first marriage and reportedly slapped an ex-girlfriend her across the face, will be splitting time between the cities of Los Angeles and New York.
It will the fourth large legal firm he has joined during his career as a lawyer, and will be working on business, investigations, and litigation, according to the organization. He has previously worked at DLA Piper, Venable, and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman.
“With our recent expansion on the West Coast and Doug’s exceptional reputation as a trusted advisor and lawyer, he fits perfectly into our continued growth strategy,” one of Willkie's chairmen, Thomas Cerabino said of Emhoff's hiring.
Another chairman at the firm, Matthew Feldman, stated, “His deep knowledge of global markets, policy and the law will be an invaluable resource." In 2023, Willkie reported $1.5 billion in revenue and $3.8 million in profits per equity partner, the outlet reported.
Willkie also donated $317,690 to the Harris campaign during the 2024 election cycle. The firm also gave $15,539 to President Donald Trump’s campaign. Feldman personally contributed $3,300 to Harris, according to Federal Election Commission records.
Throughout the campaign, Emhoff was portrayed as a something of a "wife guy" by mainstream media outlets. However, that image was tarnished as he found himself entrenched with scandals and allegations being dug up from his past. These included that he got his children’s nanny pregnant in his first marriage. In addition to this, he was accused by an ex-girlfriend of being abusive. In addition, former colleagues said he was misogynistic at work and was vindicative at the office if women did not accept advances from him.
