Ottawa authorities are having a difficult time ending the trucker protests because minors are in the equation, per the city's deputy police chief at Tuesday's presser.

"Ottawa Police Deputy Chief Steve Bell says 25 percent of trucks camped out at Ottawa protests have children living in them." relays Glen McGregor of CTV.

"Bell says police are greatly concerned about children living in trucks -- the risk of carbon monoxide fumes, cold, sanitation and noise levels. Not yet doing any enforcement re kids, will rely on guidance from Children's Aid Service."

"Through intelligence, we've learned that almost 25 per cent of the 418 trucks encamped in our city have children living in them — children who could be at risk during a police operation," Bell said during a Tuesday media update.

Hay bales, a play area, and bouncy castles have been set up for children within the confines of the protest zone. Also there's reports of protesters hugging.

This flies in the face of the narrative by at least one Ottawa city councilor that the freedom convoy is a "threat to our democracy." Freedom Convoy protestors walking around in dinosaur costumes don't exactly portray that image.

The Post Millennial's own Beth Baisch has been there on the ground covering the events in Ottawa day by day. As much, she's been a constant observer and witness to the peaceful behaviors displayed by the protesters therein throughout this demonstration.

Despite the accusations by Prime Minister justin Trudeau of racism, diverse Indigenous groups have been actively involved in the ongoing situation in Ottawa. Top officials have since convened a "trilateral table" to respond to the matter.

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson has been in office since 2010. When the George Floyd protests came about, he (like Justin Trudeau) had no issue attending those events. But with the recent arrival of a trucker convoy protesting COVID-19 vaccine mandates, it's a different story.

Now, Ottawa officials made an effort to cut off the money supply to truckers, make providing fuel to them illegal, as well as outright (temporarily) outlawing honking within city limits. They're circumstances where the mayor declaring a state of emergency is mostly a formality with regards to the fact the demonstration is still ongoing after a week and a half.
