On Thursday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement in response to recently revealed letters from DC Mayor Muriel Bowser requesting that the National Guard assist in processing illegal immigrants bused to the nation’s capital by Abbott and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey.
"Washington, DC finally understands what Texans have been dealing with every single say, as our communities are overrun and overwhelmed by thousands of illegal immigrants thanks to president Biden’s open border policies," Abbott wrote in a statement, obtained by Fox News’ Bill Melugin.
"If the mayor wants a solution to this crisis, she should call on president Biden to take immediate action to secure the border — something he has failed to do," Abbott said.
Abbott continued on to blast the Biden ministration for the "true humanitarian crisis," harkening back to Bowser’s letter calling the busing of illegal immigrants into the city a crisis of such.
"The true ongoing humanitarian crisis is along our southern border," Abbott wrote. "The Biden Administration is allowing historic levels of illegal immigrants, weapons, and deadly drugs like fentanyl to surge into our state.
"Texas continues stepping up to respond to this crisis by deploying Texas National guard soldiers and DPS troopers, building our own border wall, busing migrants to our nation’s capital, and now sending illegal immigrants back to the border," Abbott concluded.
On Thursday, it was revealed that Bowser had sent two letters requesting the activation of the National Guard, one to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on July 19, and other to officials in the White House on July 22.
In the July 19 letter, Bowser requested that the National Guard be deployed to the city for an unspecified amount of time, with around 50 guardsmen per day assisting in "a Joint Reception, Staging, Onward Movement, and Integration (JRSOI) mission in Washington, DC."
These guardsmen would be tasked in assisting NGOs with staffing, and Bowser requested the usage of National Guard transportation to shuttle migrants to temporary a processing center, with one being proposed at the DC Armory, located under 2 miles from the Capitol Building.
