Trump will schedule debates once Dems actually have a nominee

The campaign said "it would be inappropriate to schedule things with Harris because Democrats very well could still change their minds."

On Thursday, the Trump campaign said it would not finalize presidential debate details until the Democrats “formally decide on their nominee” claiming that many in the party, including former President Barack Obama, are “still holding out for someone better."

On Wednesday, Fox News sent invitations to former President Donald Trump’s and Kamala Harris’ campaigns to participate in a debate that would take place on September 17 in Pennsylvania, only seven days after the previously scheduled ABC debate that would have been between Trump and ousted candidate President Joe Biden, who tendered his resignation from the campaign on Sunday via social media post. On Thursday, Team Harris announced that she would be taking Biden's place at the ABC debate but did not respond to the Fox debate offer.

The Trump campaign said in a statement, “Given the continued political chaos surrounding crooked Joe Biden and the Democrat party, general election debate details cannot be finalized until Democrats formally decide on their nominee.”

The statement continued, “There is a strong sense by many in the Democrat party, namely Barack Hussein Obama, that Kamala Harris is a Marxist fraud who cannot beat President Trump and they are still holding out for someone better. Therefore it would be inappropriate to schedule things with Harris because Democrats very well could still change their minds.”

On Wednesday, The New York Post reported former President Barack Obama “hasn’t endorsed Kamala Harris’ presidential bid because he doesn’t think she can beat Donald Trump." Citing “a source close to the Biden family,” Obama is “very upset because he knows she can’t win.”

Despite the reporting, Barack and Michelle Obama endorsed Harris in a filmed and planned phone call. "Michelle and I called our friend Kamala Harris. We told her we think she’ll make a fantastic President of the United States, and that she has our full support," Obama wrote.

The first debate of the general election season happened much earlier than usual during this election cycle. The June 27 CNN-hosted debate was rife with stringent rules that seemed intended to set Biden up for success including no audience, no media present other than cameras, a strict, 2-minute time limit in place for questions and the microphones of both men were cut off at the end of their answer time. Following Biden’s disastrous performance, he was forced out of the race by Democrat leaders, including Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, along with behind-the-scenes assistance from Biden's former boss President Barack Obama.
