Jasmine Crockett claims Trump assassination attempts were done by 'MAGA' Trump supporters

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) made a series of claims during a podcast released Tuesday, telling comedian Hasan Minhaj that recent acts of political violence—including assassination attempts against Donald Trump—were committed by Trump supporters and that such violence "doesn’t come from Democrats."

In the interview, Crockett stated: “Obviously anyone can be a criminal. It is MAGA, it is specifically MAGA faction. I don’t think traditional Republicans are getting engaged in all of this, but like, even when we look at, and they don’t talk about the assassination attempts anymore that took place with Donald Trump, but these were Trump supporters, right? As well as this most recent situation, they try to flip it and say ‘the left.’ This doesn’t even make sense, but it’s only MAGA that does this.”

She claimed that the two attempted assassins were actually supporters of Trump.

Crockett’s comments come despite law enforcement and federal investigators still not identifying any motive in the July 13 assassination attempt in Butler, PA. The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed by Secret Service agents. Authorities have not classified him as a Trump supporter.

Ryan Wesley Routh, another would-be assassin of Trump, even after being jailed wrote a letter, “This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job,” per the DOJ.

The FBI continues to investigate his motives.

Crockett previously addressed the shooting in a House Oversight Committee hearing shortly after the attempt, asking whether racial bias influenced how the Secret Service responded to Crooks, who was white.

"I wanna talk about training and I want to talk about the fact that there’s been a little bit of dancing around as it relates to this being a suspicious person and this being a situation that was perceived to be a threat, and it seems as if there’s a different analysis that takes place," she said at the hearing. "One of my questions has to do with if you have any bias training that your officers undergo."

She continued: "I have learned so many times, in having to deal with law enforcement, that there usually is not a perception of a threat when it is a young White male, even if they are carrying a long gun. Yet a lot of times, at least in this country, when it comes to law enforcement, there is a perceived threat just by somebody having a little bit more melanin in their skin."
