Protestors covered the streets of Lansing with hundreds of vehicles to show their disapproval for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's executive shutdown order.

Some covered Capitol lawn, carrying signs and defying social distancing rules, according to the Lansing City Pulse. The protestors also went against recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to wear face covers. Many of the signs at the protest showed support for President Trump.

The protest was evident all over the city and Lansing Mayor Andy Schor noted the police were monitoring the situation.

“Apparently, the cars on the streets are moving,” said Schor, “so they are legally driving on city streets.”

“We don't have minimum street limits for the city streets. Protesting is legal under the governor's executive order. And police are not allowed to pull people over for suspected EO (emergency order) violations,” he added.

“LPD will ensure protection of residents, visitors and workers downtown. So we will continue to monitor as the situation evolves.”

Michigan Avenue was filled beyond downtown with Trump floats and anti-Whitmer signs.

Many critics throughout the United States have criticized Whitmer for what they see as unconstitutional overreach in the face of the coronavirus crisis.
