"It's dangerous for media organizations to keep sharing that photo despite how good it is."
Axios reported that an editor at an unnamed "major news outlet" has said that the photo of Trump post-assassination attempt, with fist raised, is apparently "dangerous" and should not be published. The unnamed editor apparently said the photo, in which blood is streaming down Donald Trump's face, is "free PR for Trump." The instantly iconic photo was shot by Evan Vucci. The comments come as Democrats have been urging Biden to bow out of the presidential race.
According to a report from Axios, a photo editor and photographer from a major news outlet told reporters that the "amount that publications have been using Evan's photo is kind of free P.R. for Trump in a way, and it's dangerous for media organizations to keep sharing that photo despite how good it is."
Multiple photographers have also worried privately, apparenly, telling the outlet that the photos of Trump pumping his fist, the photo of the bullet whizzing by, and others are all a form of "photoganda" that will boost Trump in the election. The photojournalist told the outlet that "no one was talking about how these photos could impact public perception in the rush to get it out."
Another photojournalist thought that the photos would become part of a "propaganda machine" for Trump's image. The journalist thought it would make him appear as a "martyr" after the attempted assassination.
The photos were shot last Saturday during the attempted assassination on Trump. Other shots were also fired, killing one man and critically injuring two others. 50-year-old father and former fire chief Corey Comperatore was fatally shot in the head as he shielded his daughters and wife from the spray of bullets. David Dutch and James Copenhaver are both are in stable condition, though Dutch was put into a medically induced coma.
