A group regarded to be the most loyal supporters of North Carolina's professional women's soccer team issued a statement on Friday condemning the Utah Royals' partnership with America First Credit Union.

The group of fans called "The Uproar" took significant issue with the credit union's name and claimed that the phrase "America First" is rooted in "racism, fascism, and hateful ideology.”

This is despite the fact that the major credit union was established in 1939.

America First Credit Union sponsors Utah Royals FC, and the team's jerseys feature the company's insignia. Because the North Carolina Courage will face the Royals on Friday, the die-hard fans felt compelled to issue a statement ahead of the match.

"As we approach the Courage's match against Utah Royals FC this Friday, we must weigh in on the jersey controversy. While we support all the Utah players and their fans, we can’t stand by without mentioning the front of jersey sponsor, America First Credit Union, of our opponent- the Utah Royals," said The Uproar on X.

"The phrase 'America First' has a long history rooted in racism, fascism, and hateful ideology," the group continued.

"Thank you to Andre and Courtney of the @DiasporaUtdPod for bravely speaking about this. We join you in speaking out - soccer is for all, and promoting language that is tied to racism and hatred is unacceptable," The Uproar concluded. The post was later community noted for missing context about when the credit union was founded.

The NC Courage, which is the state's division I professional women's soccer team, did not release a similar statement or comment on the matter.

The Uproar states on its website "We are a group of soccer loving people who are striving to create an exciting supporters group culture in, outside and beyond the stadium. If you've been looking for friends who share your passion for the NC Courage, you've found us."

The group's statement was immediately mocked by individuals on X.

TPM’s Thomas Stevenson responded, “A lot of dumb things happened today. But this might take the cake.”

"No one is in an uproar but the person who wrote this tweet," said a journalist with USA Today.

"A Credit Union founded in the 30s is being called out not because they have done anything racist but because you think their name sounds bad? This is so 2021," an individual added.

"This has to be satire. Zero chance this is legit," wrote another.
