The woman who took on Trudeau in the SNC-Lavalin scandal has officially won her seat as an independent candidate in Vancouver Granville.
The incumbent Bill Morneau, Canada’s Minister of Finance, has managed to retain his seat as MP for the Toronto Centre riding, winning 55 per cent of votes.
Ralph Goodale previously won his riding with 55% of the vote, spending $10,000 more than his Conservative competitor.
Freeland easily won a decisive victory in her downtown Toronto riding, with NDP candidate Melissa Jean-Baptiste Vajda trailing far behind. Many have expected this as Freeland has established herself as a high-profile candidate, while her opponents are relatively unknown.
Senator André Pratte formally announced his resignation from the senate while election results are being broadcasted.
“Well this is awkward frankly,” starts the reporter. “As I’ve just mentioned to you your son’s opponent has been elected.”
