The majority of likely voters blame Vice President Kamala Harris for the massive problems of illegal immigration and border security that have been rampant since she and Joe Biden took the White House in 2021, according to a new poll.

The New York Times/Siena poll of likely voters recorded that when likely voters were asked “How much blame, if any, do you think Kamala Harris as sitting vice president should receive for … problems at the border?" 63 percent of likely voters said Harris should receive "a lot of blame" or "some blame" in regarding the problems on the border.

Within the first few months of the Biden-Harris administration, Biden appointed Harris to deal with border security and the "root causes" of immigration. Specifically, with “stemming the movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border.” After her appointment to the task, outlets referred to her as the "border czar." By June of 2021, only a few months after that appointment, her office was denying her responsibility for that mission.

After being dubbed the border czar by many different media organizations at the time, and now running for President, the Harris camp has tried to distance her from the moniker. She has also tried to present herself as being hard on crime at the border as well as being tough on border security.

Only 16 percent of likely voters said they place "no blame at all" on Harris for the border problems and only 7 percent of likely voters in the poll said it "is not an issue." 1,695 likely voters participated in the poll from September 3 to 6.

The topic was highlighted in the Trump-Harris debate on Tuesday, when Trump hit Harris on the issue of the border. At the end of the debate, the GOP nominee reiterated the point. "So, she just started by saying she's going to do this. She's going to do that. She's going to do all these wonderful things. Why hasn't she done it?" Trump said in closing. "They've had three and a half years to fix the border."

Illegal immigration has been particularly raised as an issue in the last few weeks due to activity from the Tren de Aragua gang in Aurora, Colorado as well as as mass influx of Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio.
