On Friday, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele along with several police chiefs told their Pennsylvania community that fentanyl and heroin were found in the THC gummy brand Strictly Delta being sold at three Tobacco Hut store locations.

Local news reports that Steele said the "Delta 8 THC 600 MG Happy Cubes" led to two overdoses which prompted the investigation. The brand flavors Blueberry Lemonade and Juicy Pineapple were laced with the illegal drugs, and in a press conference the DA laid out all the brands to avoid on a table.

Two other Delta THC and CBD products, Urb Extrax, another gummy, and the edible Packwoods Coned were also found to contain fentanyl.

According to Philadelphia Magazine, Steele said, "Individuals should not consume any flavors of these Strictly Delta brand of gummies. If anyone has any of these gummies, do not eat them! We need to get the word out that some of these packages contain deadly drugs—fentanyl and heroin. We don't yet know whether other items from the stores contain deadly drugs. Testing is ongoing. We also don’t know if this is a widespread issue but we are working with law enforcement at the local, state and federal levels to ascertain that."

The two victims who ingested the gummies survived.

"The D.A.'s office said the Tobacco Hut locations involved were located at: 1080 Bethlehem Pike, Hatfield, 728 Bethlehem Pike, Montgomeryville, 1740 Dekalb Pike, Whitpain Township," reports local news.

Amied Algthy, an employee at the Whitpain location, said, "We wouldn't have carried it at our stores if we knew that," about the illegal drug-laced gummies.

Tobacco Hut released a statement that said, "Tobacco Hut was unknowingly the recipient of inventory that contained illegal ingredients contrary to representations from the product supplier. We have removed these brands from all Tobacco Hut locations. For each of our 22 years in business, the company has prided itself in providing only the highest quality products to its customers and has maintained a zero-tolerance policy for products that are misrepresented. We continue to work with law enforcement to ensure they have everything necessary to resolve this matter."

Record amounts of fentanyl were seized at the US-Mexico border in 2022 as drug smugglers traffick the deadly drug into the US, often packed with illegal immigrants who are crossing over. The drug is often passed off as candy and the DEA has warned "rainbow fentanyl" can be especially dangerous to children because it resembles candy.
